1) What are your nicknames for each other?
S: Joey, Jojo, Jobie
J: Scoopy, Salpal, Lil’ Scoop, SarBear, SarahBearah, Scooptaro, Drama QWEEN, Diva
2) What is your favorite thing to do together?
S: We used to love playing tennis together when we had easy access to a court (thx WUSTL), but we haven’t been able to find one in NJ/NYC (if you have pro tips, hit us up). So now, I love window shopping for puppies, binge-watching The Crown on Netflix, and cooking/baking with Joe.
J: The best part of every day is when we get home from work. It’s late, we’re tired, and all we want is time for the two of us. So we cook dinner together. We talk about our days and laugh to the chopping of vegetables, we change into pajamas while the cast iron whips up a pan sauce we pulled out of the cookbook, and then we sit down on our table stools to eat before we fall asleep. It’s supposed to be a chore, but it doesn’t feel that way.
3) How did you first meet?
S: I noticed Joe in class at WashU -- we had Psych101 together -- so I knew who he was for a while. But we really started spending time together during senior year through our friends, who were dating each other. I kept inviting myself over to Joe’s apartment under the pretense that I wanted to play with his cat. I suddenly realized I must really like him since I’m ridiculously allergic to cats.
J: We met when I was a sophomore and she was a freshman. When I saw her on campus I would think, “She’s the most beautiful girl! I hope we can become friends.” Then, a few years later, we had the chance! I unknowingly visited her house to enjoy some ice cream with Micajah and Catherine after a stressful day (Catherine and Sarah shared a house). When we were done, Sarah came home just as I was leaving, and we stayed to chat on the driveway. The next day I came over again under the false pretense of being stressed and needing ice cream… but it was really to have the opportunity to see her again!
4) What’s the most memorable trip you’ve taken together?
S: Joe took me to Missouri wine country at the end of senior year. We stayed at a B&B that belonged to an amazing woman named Jan whose hobbies included baking and sewing (yes, sewing) sponges. We drank TONS of wine, ate amazing food, and skipped around the peaceful Missouri countryside.
J: My friends tell me that Missouri Wine Country doesn’t exist… did we just make that up?
J: Just kidding, it DOES exist, and there were a several enjoyable wineries and restaurants!
J: Also, don’t forget about that trip’s detour to BaconFest, which we haphazardly stumbled upon before absentmindedly attempting to fill my car with racing fuel.
5) What’s the trait you most admire in one another?
S: Joe’s loyalty, compassion, and sense of humor <3
J: This list could continue forever. Sarah’s brilliance, kindness, empathy, cuteness, elegance, stage presence, and her beautiful voice! And everything else.
